What is quarantine?

This post will answer the questions:

  1. Who should isolate?
  2. How should I isolate to prevent spread of COVID0-19?
  3. Why do I have to stay quarantined for 14 days?
  4. Why should I isolate at all and how does that prevent spread of COVID-19?

Fortunately, I’m not feeling so bad today. Robitussin DM allowed me to sleep relatively well and I am functional with tylenol but I am still in quarantine. Interestingly, the word “quarantine” originates from quarantena, the Venetian language form, meaning “forty days”. This is due to the 40-day isolation of ships and people before they were allowed to enter Venice practiced as a measure of disease prevention.

How is the coronavirus transmitted?

This post will answer these questions:

  1. How is this the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 transferred?
  2. How do I get infected with COVID-19?

  5. Should I tell people I’m sick If I have COVID-19? What will they think?

Today, the acetaminophen (1000mg every 6 hours) made a big difference and I was functional. At least I was as functional as a man can be while a prisoner in his own basement.

Could it be?

Day 1.  Well actually today is day 2.  Or really it’s day 6. I guess it doesn’t matter.  For the past week, I have been the attending physician at the ICU in my hospital.  We have mostly been waiting for this thing to hit. Everyone is a bit on edge.  There are many PUIs (persons under investigation), most of whom are longshots, and none that have turned positive.

My COVID Journey

It’s clear that the people with the chronic conditions caused by obesity and those who are confined to nursing homes because of chronic sedentary neglect are at the highest risk. I started this blog several years ago to help my patients with weight loss (as you can see from the other posts), but right now I sit at the beginning of this insane time and I’m right at the front of it all waiting for the onslaught.  I work as an ICU doctor and, based on all the reports, this disease puts lots of people in the ICU.
